Free WP Theme with Matching Twitter Background
This theme has been one of the most popular free themes I’ve provided on this site. Because of several recent comments, I was reminded about it again. Mostly I was reminded that this theme was originally created in 2009 and was painfully out of date…that is until today! I’ve completely updated the theme with a fresh clean look while still keeping the same whimsical background. It’s also got many more theme options than before such as making use of WordPress custom menus, the ability to have both a vertical and horizontal menu, four separate widget spaces within the footer area, as well as widget spaces both above and below the posts.
Instructions for Downloading and Using this Theme:
- Download the zip folder here
- Go to Themes under Appearance in your WordPress Dashboard, and click on Install New Theme.
- Choose the Upload Button, and upload the zip folder to your site.
Alternatively, you can always manually upload the theme into your site via ftp. Just make sure to extract the files from the zip folder first. This is recommended if you would like to make any additions or changes to the theme before uploading. You can always zip the folder again after edits, and upload per the first instructions if you don’t have access to upload files via ftp.
Download the Twitter Background here.

Want to spruce up this theme a little more? Here are a few suggestions.
Replace the header image with your own.
- Look in the theme’s image folder and replace the header-object.png file with one of your own ensuring that the file name stays the same.
- Be sure that you either keep the image at the same dimensions or, you can change the dimensions within the style.css sheet. Simply use Ctrl+F to find the code for the header-object and change the size and positioning accordingly.
Change the Heading Fonts
- Head over to Font Squirrel to find a great @font face kit to use for your site!
- Once you’ve downloaded your kit, create a “fonts” folder inside of your theme folder. Add all of the font files into that folder.
- In the provided css, make sure to add “fonts/” without the quotation marks just in front of the url path for all of the fonts. (So, wherever you see url(‘fontname’) add the fonts/ just before the opening quotes.)

connecting peopleThank you for providing such helpful information…please keep it up! This is excellent “keep moving” inspiration & support! Incredibly valuable info for people like me who has the idea.
First of all congratulation for such a great site. Very nice theme, much better than the old one
I will probably be subscribing to your blog. Keep up the good work.
This theme is awesome. Thank you and sucess!.
Thanks for such a excellent template. Cheers.
I’ve just started using this theme for both blog and twitter and i love it (and so do my readers). As soon as i can afford a custom design i am coming back here to get it, seriously impressed.
I don’t seem to be able to view java SCRIPT widgets in my sidebars though; any ideas?
I’m glad you like the theme.
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be able to view java script widgets. There is really no reason that I can think of with the theme itself. I have a javascript widget on my own site. Is it a pluggin or are you pasting code into a text widget? If it’s a pluggin, I’d try to uninstall and reinstall it to your ftp. It might also have to do with the version of WP you are using as they are constantly updating and some pluggins can stop working on the upgrades sometimes.
As a note, I always include setup with my customized theme designs, and am looking forward to working with you in the future.
I’ll have a root around, i have a plugin one (for my twitter stream) and a text one (from amazon) so it might just be one of the WP2.9 changes
thanks x
Changing the plugin one worked…now to investigate the amazon wish-list one. Thanks for the advice
Thank you so much for this GORGEOUS template! My husband and I are in the process of adopting, and our agency taught a “Marketing 101″ class to empower couples to design their own marketing. I customized both the blog (http://mikeandnichole.com/) and the twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/MikeandNichole) templates. I am so appreciative to have found your site. Warmest regards, Nichole
So glad you have gotten use from the theme. Nice work.
I would like to get the Page-BgTexture.jpg without the brown block for the site title. Please email me a price for this customization. Thanx, Butch
Hi, Sarah!
I found your website thru the Artisteer website, and what a find!
I love your Blue_Brown WPandTwitter combo theme.
I am creating a writer’s website (for me) and need an elegant look and feel. I have purchased the domain, and the WP hosting, but it is still under construction, due to lack of inspiring themes. (I cannot use that excuse now!)
I don’t know if I will be using this design as is, or getting you to do a slight tweek for my needs (and a biz card design, too?).
I will definitely be leaving a donation after my next paycheck. You are a genius!
Oh, yes…have I missed the BUTTON (and code) for your site that I can put on my site? Or is that included in the theme?
Thank You!
Deb
Deb, thanks for the note. Please email me if you would like more information on customization packages or my other design work.
