Free Prayer Journal (Word Document)
I created this a year ago, and with a new year upon us, I thought it would be good to post again for anyone out there looking for a good way to organize their prayer life this year. Enjoy!
Please note that I just updated this file! It’s completely print ready right now, or you can edit and print it. This is a customizable Prayer Journal in a Word Document. It includes a daily prayer schedule set up, places to include unsaved friends and family members, missionaries, ministries, as well as personal prayer requests and praises. It also contains a daily Bible reading calendar, a way to keep track of Scripture memory, and some additional resources and scriptures. As a note, the scripture passages are from the ESV. I might be adding a KJV version, and I’ll also upload an older version of Word if there are requests for it.
The formatting is designed to be printed and put into a half inch, half sheet three ring binder. Simply download the zip folder, extract the file, and edit the document however you choose. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Access to a printer (it is formatted already for two pages per sheet, so just print on plain 8.5 x 11 paper)
- Access to a paper cutter (unless you want to free-hand it with scissors…not recommended)
- A three ring hole puncher
- A 1/2″ three ring binder designed for 5.5″ x 8.5″ pages (half sheets)

I am unable to open the file because it is in a zip format which I don’t have an unzip format on my computer. Can you tell me how I can access one so that I can open this file? Thanks!
If you right click on the zipped folder, what options do you get? You should see an “Extract Contents” or something similar. That’s what you use to unzip the folder. Hope that helps.

Sarah, I’ve been searching on and off for a prayer journal template for several months now and when I opened the zip of your design this evening I was SO excited I almost jumped out of my seat with excitement. This document is just fabulous! And it´s EXACTLY what I had hoped to find all this time.
For those who are wondering whether to download it or not, you should know that this document is completely mis-titled. It’s much more than a simple Prayer journal with a simple page or two, offering a bit of space to scrawl in a couple of lines here and there…
This is more of a Prayer Guide, or Prayer Book, with extensive Scripture readings, pages that list specific groups for whom you can pray, including many that, to be honest, wouldn’t necessarily occur to me (eg ‘spouse’s extended family’, ‘missionary of the week’).
Then there’s ample space for writing out your intercessory prayers for these people, with relevant Bible texts scattered throughout, followed by pages where you bring prayers for yourself before God – ‘Prayer Requests’ and ‘Praises’.
After that there are prayers quoted directly from the Bible, Scripture Memory Plans, a Yearly Bible reading guide, and a guide for meditating on the character of God.
This document is a thing of beauty, and a blessing to all. I would have happily paid good money for a printed copy in a bookstore. To find it free online is a joy.

I have been a Christian for years – but my life has been turbulent for the last 5 years, but especially the last 4 years, and last year I experienced healing, but I have moved again and I need to get established in another new congregation. So as I was thinking yesterday about what to do about my spiritual life for this year – in a rather lonely place I thought maybe a prayer journal would be helpful.
Using structure in my prayer time might help me get to that hearling place again. My library is on two continents and most in storage… so I went on line. I have been on a few sites that have been helpful.

thank you so much. I have tried to set a prayer journal up myself and just couldn’t get it together. This is much more than what I thought it would be, I am so thankful you took the time to set it up and in the ESV , that was a big plus.

This is wonderful, and I so want to print it off. I have made multiple attempts, but the bottom of each page keeps getting cut off. As well, I can only get one page to print, not two. I am using Open Office to open it. I have tried landscape instead of portrait mode, reducing the font size, etc. I am wondering if you have any suggestions? Thanks, Wendy
I was excited to find this tool, but then immensely disappointed to find that the down load was corrupt! An additional message stated that files were missing. Do you have an updated copy to download? It sounds like the exact thing I’m looking for.

Dolores, you are the first person that I’ve heard say that the file was corrupt. It is a backwards compatible Word document. I haven’t really had time to look at the file in a long time, but there shouldn’t be any reason for it not to download correctly. I’ll have to look at it when I have the chance. No, it’s not published but I’m working on a publishing a work on prayer that includes this. It was just done in Word, and the file is available for download.

I, too, was excited to use this great tool, but also found that my mac as well as my pc stated that the file was damaged and unable to open. Could you please send me an updated copy? Thank you so much.
I just downloaded the file from the site to my PC and it works fine. Make sure that you have the ability to download zipped folders. It is a zip file that contains two separate versions of the Word Document (an older and newer version of Word).

Can you create a Catholic Version of this prayer journal?
This journal is designed to be a Christian Prayer Journal that simply displays principles and reminders from the Bible. Prayer is a very personal communication between a Believer and God, so I didn’t want to add anything besides what the Scripture says. Christians of different denominations are welcome to use it, though, of course and adapt it as desired.
