The A,B,C’s of God’s Character – Introduction

PinExt The A,B,Cs of Gods Character Introduction

Do you find yourself feeling stressed, anxious, and worried often? Are you a believer in Christ, but you find it difficult to sometimes think on truth? God’s Word tells us not to be anxious but to instead trust in Him. He promises that His peace which passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds when we thankfully pray to Him about everything. So often, however, our prayers can become stressed out and worried, because we aren’t praying in faith believing what God has already said about Himself, us, and the circumstances going on around us.

A wise man once said, “You do what you do because you think what you think. You think what you think, because you believe what you believe.” The Bible already has all of the answers in it that we need for salvation and life here on earth. God has given His children His Holy Spirit to teach, comfort, and convict. Through that power, He enables us to believe, memorize, and meditate on His truth so we are not bogged down by the lies of our own hearts or this world. He’s also given us other believers to encourage us along the way.

A couple of great resources that He’s used to change my thinking have been two books. I would highly recommend these for anyone who struggles to keep their emotions in check especially in relation to anxiety, depression, or fear. They are a book by Elizabeth George entitled Loving God with All Your Mind as well as the book by Nancy Leigh DeMoss entitled Lies Women Believe and the Truths that Set Them Free. Both of these simply take Scriptural truths and promises and help you see how you can practically apply them to your daily lives.

Another simple and practical habit that I started several years ago to help me obey God’s command to always “make my request with thanksgiving” in this area is to make a mental list of the attributes of God. I find that night time  is often the hardest time for me to think on things that are true and lovely instead of dwelling on stresses and anxieties of life. To help me keep a list going in a fun way, I decided to use the letters of the alphabet. I’m sure that the idea is not original with me, but I honestly can’t remember where that idea came from. To ensure that I had Scriptural truth to back up my word ideas, I tried to think of a passage or verse that talked about the specific attribute of God. It’s a challenge to remind me to be actively “Abiding in Christ and letting His Words abide in me,” as well as a comforting reminder of Who is in control.

I’ve made this basic resource along with other ideas available in a free prayer journal available on this site, and after some comments emailed to me from readers, I thought maybe it would be a good time to do an interactive list on the site to so that we can help each other think on the truth of who our great God is. So, in the next post, I’m simply going to be listing out the A,B,C’s of God’s characters with a verse or passage supporting each. Please make sure to comment or email with your ideas and I’ll continue to edit and update the post often to reflect the new additions. I’m excited to hear what everyone comes up with! I’ve already received one listing for “Q” which I really struggled with coming up with. So, stay posted and I hope this will be an encouragement to you!

  • I love the style and content of your site. I am building our church website. I am trying to update to an artisteer template. I bought the software and am working on it. That is how I found your site. I was looking for tips. You must be an accomplished website designer. I would like to improve my capabilities and wondered where I should focus my efforts. Should I learn php programming or should I focus elsewhere. Are there any books you would suggest I get? I would appreciate your advice. Your designs are awesome.
God Bless You and your family,
    Your Brother in Christ,
    Keith

      Hi Keith,

Because most of the php elements are done for you in Artisteer, it’s basically the styling that you can tweak to get the desired look you need. I learned by doing, quite honestly and searching online until I found the right answers. To get a basic understanding of php, html, and css, I do recommend getting some of the Craig Campbell Watch and Learn tutorials. They go for a pretty good rate and are very useful tools. Using WordPress, you have so many great plugins at your disposal, Jquery isn’t a must unless you want to start developing your own special features or plugins. The more you work within the code, the more you’ll start to understand how it’s all set up. Get yourself a testing platform, block it to Search Engines, and then don’t be scared to play around with the code so you can learn.
