Recent Projects
Recent design projects and things I’ve learned.
I’m loving the newest version of WordPress and the newest Artisteer upgrade as well that perfectly meshes with WordPress! The new features that I especially like are the new Menu options as well as the new Featured Image option. Continue reading
I decided to give my blog a much needed face lift. However, now is really not the best time for me to do this as there are a million other projects to be done right now. So, this will be a slow update. I definitely need to simplify things on the site, and aim to do that. Some recent design projects I’ve done are the following:
As I was working on redesigning theStock411 WordPress blog, I implemented two fantastic WordPress plugins. One of these plugins is WP-Sticky. I’ve known about this plugin for a while, but had never used it. It’s a nice simple way to keep one post at the top of your blog at all times. Now, there are a couple of items to note if you are using this plugin after creating your theme in Artisteer: You must change a tiny bit of php if you want to hide the date. I found a couple of forums that had parts of the following information:
Well, I’ve been very busy on some projects recently as well as other “life” stuff that have kept me from being able to post as much as I’d like to. I just completed a full WordPress website for a company that I did a WP blog for several months ago. They wanted their whole site transformed and consolidated into one WordPress Site. It was a huge process as I had to set up WordPress in their current hosting location, transfer the old blog over to it, and completely design and add content to their site from top to bottom.
I so enjoyed working with Annie from Annie Kennedy Photography as we helped to give her a presence as she starts her new business venture.Annie has a wonderful eye for photography and a great sense of style, so it was easy to come up with a great design that matches her personality that would make sure to draw complete attention to the great photos she takes acting as the centerpiece. This blue and brown binder graphic set pictured on the right includes individual graphics designed to be printed and inserted into a 1″ half sheet sized 3 ring binder. These images were created to be printed easily to a home computer on standard 8.5″ x 11″ paper. Printing on photo paper or card stock is recommended.
Simply print, cut out the graphics along the edges, and hole punch as necessary. Note: I’ve included two separate versions. One includes text that matches the free prayer journal I’ve made available on this site, and one has no text so that you can add your own as desired. Hint: You can easily open these graphics in a Word Document, add your own text, and print to your own printer if desired. These would be ideal for a special event or as gifts. Each down-loadable graphic pack comes with the following: Continue reading

Here is another Christmas card that was a “spur-of-the-moment” job. I’m posting this one to demonstrate a few simple Photoshop tips that can help you turn around designs quicker for customers just like this one. As the title suggests, there is great advantage in using many layers in Photoshop. I’m just going to focus on the background of this card itself. There are 3 separate layers used just for the green background.
The bottom layer is actually a black and white plaid I found online and turned into a pattern. Need a refresher on creating your own patterns? (NOTE: if you are using Artisteer and want to know how you can make your own textures, this is it!) Continue reading
