Taking a Break

There are several new prospects on the horizon for my husband and I that require my utmost attention right now, so I’ll be taking a break from any new design projects for a while. You can feel free to ask me questions, but I will not be able to take on any new customers until further notice. I have a couple of projects to finish up for some current customers, and I’ll keep you posted when I’m ready to start-up in full force again. :) I will still be writing the occasional blog post, and you can always feel free to comment on previous posts or ask a design question.

Take care!

Fixed Image Viewing Problems in IE

OK, so I somehow managed to fix the issue I had with my image showing up in IE. After scouring internet forums, I discovered that this is a common issue with IE users, and there are multiple potential issues at work. I made sure of a few common ones first, which solve the problem completely for most people. Those issues are the following:

  1. Make sure that your permissions settings in your ftp folder are set correctly. Not only does the folder that contains your images (such as “wp-content” or “images” or wherever your images are stored) but also the image itself needs to be set to 755.
  2. Make sure all of your images are RGB and not CMYK. (This seemed to be the issue for one guy and it resolved his problem.)
  3. Make sure that your image is the appropriate dimensions for your sidebar in IE (or wherever else it is displayed).

Now, I first fixed all of these, but I was still frustrated to see that my image was not showing up. So, I played with the code itself in my Text Widget. Now, keep in mind that my images have always appeared just fine using Firefox. I first tried removing the code I placed at the beginning to link the image to one of my pages. After doing that, my image magically appeared in IE. I was still a little surprised that the link would be the issue as I have a linked images using the same code (or so I thought) in my blogspot blog. So, I copied the code from my blogspot blog image, and found that it has an extra /> immediately before the closing </a>.

Finally, success at last! When I edited the code, I was able to put a working link back into my image code and it appears just fine in both IE and Firefox. Apparently the problem had something to do with how my blogspot blog transformed the code in a way that IE understands. So, if you are having this issue, simply copy and paste code from an existing, working image and just replace the urls. If you don’t have one to do that with, try the above mentioned techniques as well as the extra code snippet I also mentioned above, and you should be set.

As a note, your permissions will definitely need to be set correctly regardless in order to view your images. Now I just need to figure out how to fix the couple of images that are not showing up in my Gallery. I’m hoping a simple delete and re-upload will fix those issues.

Please let me know if this post was a help or if you have other related questions.

Frustrations with Internet Explorer!

I don’t think I can describe just how much I dislike Internet Explorer. For over a year now, it hasn’t worked on my laptop, so naturally any software or programs that use IE as the default would not work on my system. I just upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (which I love!) and I finally have IE working again. Now that I am back on IE, I’m able to see what my site looks like through it instead of just Firefox. I was very disappointed to see that my image on my sidebar doesn’t show up! Also, two of my gallery images in my Photo Editing Gallery only display as thumbnails, but not as actual images when you click on them!!! So frustrating! Especially when everything works great in Firefox.

So, I’ve tried the WP forums to see if I could resolve the image no show issue. I made sure my permissions were set correctly in my ftp server. The code is correct in the text widget, and I even converted the main image to RGB (that was posted in one of the forums) and reuploaded it just to be sure. Still no luck! So, if anyone else out there knows what might be going on, please let me know! I’m realizing that everyone who has visited this site using IE has never seen it the way it was intended.

Hopefully, I will find a solution to this problem, and if I do, I’ll be sure to post what that is. Until then, I guess my site will have to stay a little on the plain side if you are looking at it in Internet Explorer.

Moving…

I know I haven’t posted in a long time and have not offered a free Wordpress theme in a while. My husband and I are moving at the end of the week, and getting ready for a busy summer of camp work. I’ve also been frantically trying to get a project done for Kids 4 Truth before we head out for the summer. We’re going to be putting up an updated website soon (You’ll definitely want to check that out!), and it will include a Web Numbers section. This will provide additional material and activity sheets for kids to do that correspond to every single unit of the curriculum. So, I’ve been using InDesign to complete and edit a puzzle or craft sheet  for each of these units times three levels (360 total!!!) So no time for extras right now.

This fall I’ll be focusing on my site and blog and will be offering a lot more freebies. If you’ve never been to the Kids 4 Truth website, check it out. This is a Flash designed site that won a Webby Award in 2001. It’s designed to teach basic truth about God to children through animation and a core curriculum and program that can be purchased and impleminted in a church, school, or family. So, stop by for a visit some time over at Kids4Truth.
