Artisteer Tips

Big Note: If you are using Artisteer 3.1, the default prefix for everything is now theme- instead of art-. You can also choose to remove the prefix or change it, so make sure that your prefixes match your theme when using my tutorials.

Positioning a Sidebar within Your Header

Some of you who followed my instructions on how to add a widgetized area to your header may only want the widgetized area in a part of your header instead of covering the entire area. You may be especially frustrated… Continue reading

Adding a Specialized Style Class to a Text Widget

Do you want to highlight the content of a text widget so that it appears differently than other widgets or text within your sidebar? Try creating your own class for the widget, and see how quickly you can make your site stand out from that standard “template” look of other Artisteer generated themes. Continue reading

Adding a Widgetized Sidebar to Your Header

NOTE: If you are using Artisteer 4, it already comes with a Header Widget area. However, it doesn’t include styling, so you can just take a glance through the styling elements of this post for adding your desired styling to the widget area. Also, you may want to reference how to create a new block style for use specifically in the header as well. Content below is related specifically to Artisteer 3.

The newest version of Artisteer already comes with a lot of widget spaces, but sometimes you want even a little more flexibility. This post is designed to show you how you can easily add a sidebar area within your header although the same principles can be applied to add a sidebar anywhere within your site. It’s a great place to ad social icons, advertisements, or a slider that you can easily edit and adjust in the future through the use of simple widgets. You can also just simply use it to place a different header image into the header space whenever you want to. Tip: use a plugin like Widget Logic to be able to choose which which widgets display on which pages, posts, or categories and you can easily have your own image or slider per page! Ok, on to the steps. Continue reading

How to Create a Specialized Donate Button

If you are a business or blog that either requires donations or payment buttons, PayPal is the easiest and most flexible way to incorporate those into your website. I use PayPal for all of my business payments and invoices as it is convenient and safe for both my customers and myself. PayPal makes it very simple to add a Donate, Shopping Cart, or Pay Now button to your site. While some people prefer to use the built in PayPal buttons, I’m going to show you how you can really customize your payment buttons and to give them more life and to make them match your website perfectly. Editing the Style of Featured Image Thumbnails

Have you been wondering how to remove the default one pixel border around the featured image thumbnail? While I love that you can edit the size and proportions of the thumbnail easily now within the Theme’s Options Panel (located under the Appearance Tab of your Dashboard), there was no hint as to where the styling for these images might be located. After editing all of the various .img classes in the css, I finally began digging around in the functions.php and found that Artisteer actually assigns the avatar class to the post thumbnail (not avatar img which is also in the css, but just avatar!) I’m pleased to now be able to very easily edit the appearance of the thumbnail image, and I’m going to show you how you can as well. Continue reading

Hide Category Titles in Artisteer 3 Themes

I actually like the way that Artisteer gives you the options to feature the category title along with your category description in the upper left hand corner of the sheet. However, not everyone wants that title to appear and some… Continue reading

Creating a Secondary Horizontal Menu Holder

Having two separate horizontal menus for your WordPress theme can be extremely helpful, especially if you have a lot of content that needs to be organized. I wanted to highlight some of my static pages and most important content in a large menu above everything else, but also have easy navigation for all of my categories in another horizontal menu. Here are detailed instructions for how you can do the same thing. This is specifically for those using Artisteer 3 generated themes for WordPress. If you are still confused about custom menus in general, please see my post on Organization of your WordPress Site. Continue reading
